Over het evenement
The press wrote he is one of the rare tenor heroes of this time. His nickname ‘The Hurricane ’comes from his explosive and expressive playing. Alexander honors the tradition of the old legendary Texas Tenors like Gene Ammons, Houston Person and Ike Quebec. His all-time hero was Stanley Turrentine and although Alexander is a breed of its own you will find fragment of that ‘Touch Tenor’ history back in his musical approach.
As a jazz-saxophone player he gave over 2000 concerts around the world, played on more than 30 CD's and DVD's. He performs as special guest as well as with his own combo. He is member of the Round Midnight Orchestra with which he toured last year in Colombia, Thailand, India and South Africa next to a big theatre tour in the Netherlands. Alexander is also a member of the Saskia Laroo International band and performs regularly together with the Thai saxophone legend Koh Mr Saxman and the Sound of Siam band.
Alexander ‘The Hurricane’ Beets presents the ‘tribute to Stanley Turrentine’ with his quartet together with lady trumpet player Ellister van der Molen. Another project is called ‘Sandborn
Sound’ were Alexander perform with his quartet together with alto saxophonist Rolf Delfos bringing a musical tribute to the still living legend David Sanborn.
Working as a jazz festival director of the Amersfoort Jazz festival for 21 years brought Alexander warm musical friendships with Houston Person, Deborah Brown, Hans Dulfer, and Sylwester Ostrowski.
Alexander is brother to Peter Beets (piano) and Marius Beets (double-bass) who both are active player in the international jazz scene.
